The Nicest Gesture

The most startling and most beautiful thing that happened to me…I have three sons. One lives in Rockville, Maryland, one lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and one lives near Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cambridge, Massachusetts has a habit of calling me around 9:30/10:00 in the morning. When he calls he always says he called me up so that we can have coffee together. So he’s in Cambridge, having coffee. I wander into the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee and we sit and talk.

Last Saturday night, I got an email from him, and it said, tomorrow morning, at 10 o’clock, let’s have Mother’s Day brunch. That’s nice, he’s going to call me at 10 and talk to me on the phone. And then, just before I go to bed, around 11:30 at night, I get an email and it has a Zoom link. And it says, hit this at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. So I think, big deal, I’m going to see his face while we’re having coffee. But I’m good for anything.

I hit it at 10 in the morning, and I can’t believe it. Just like we’re here now, I see myself (and I’m glad to say I got dressed), and there are my three sons and we talk for 1 hour. I thought, talk about how technology has entered our lives and what we can do with it while we’re sheltered in place.
