Louis Armstrong. When I was at the Mount Sinai hospital, they had the whole floor dedicated to him. It was really something.
He used to play in our neighborhood. We had lots of shows on the drive. Louis Armstrong would take the Xylophone. That’s what he’d play. We had a lot of shows on the East River Drive. I’d go with my friends. It was for the community. They had something different every week. Different people at different times. I was brought up there so I know. Nat King Cole was there too. They had different shows all the time. Usually on a Monday night.
I was Jewish but I’d listen to a lot of black musicians. A lot of girls did back then. Louis Armstrong was really wonderful.
