So when I was growing up, a small child, I was told that I was going to be a teacher. But I didn’t want to be a teacher. I wanted to be Johnny Appleseed. My mother didn’t like that. She objected to my playing Johnny Appleseed and so I found a place in the yard that was on the other side of the house where she couldn’t see me and I’d play over there. I put a pot on my head and I put sand in it and I pretend the sand were the seeds. Then go run sprinkling these apple seeds singing, “Lord is good to me. And I’ll thank the Lord for giving me the things I need. Some of them in the apple seeds. Lord is good to me.”And that was something I didn’t share with anybody else through just something, my own li’l thing.
My mom didn’t like me playing Johnny Appleseed because I was supposed to be a lady. I can sit down and I might as well do embroidery.
